An exercise in futility
This morning Norm and I enacted our annual election day ritual of driving to the polls together to cancel out each other's vote.  I'm actually glad I listened to him and didn't vote early, though.  For the past two weeks he's had a view of the lines around the block for the downtown Decatur early voting site.  As he pointed out, it took us about an hour to vote in 2004.  Since more people already voted early in Georgia than voted in the entire 2004 election, we decided to gamble on shorter lines today.   I was SHOCKED though, to have no line whatsoever!  We had our pick of voting machines, but Norm decided to take the one next to mine anyway so he could be certain to vote differently from me.  The only item we agreed on?  We both voted "No" to require mandatory uniforms for Dekalb County students in grades K-5.

I hate that I had to be on time to work today (my boss had told me he would be late due to voting and kids whose day care had decided to take the day off). I was in line for 2 hours from 6:30 - 8:30, when I KNOW that there would have been no line at all at 10:00!

Heh. I'm pretty sure that Dan and I cancelled out each other's votes. *shrugs* At least we both voted.

My parents' votes cancelled each other's out, too.

I truly don't understand mixed (political) marriages. It would absolutely kill me if D voted for McCain, or wasn't as excited about Obama as I am. I'm not dissing your marriages, it's just one of those things I truly don't comprehend. Different religions seem to me to be more compatible than different politics.

I guess it's less of an issue for me because I grew up in a household where my parents voted opposite parties, and they're still married after 40 years. However, I do side politically with my SANE parental unit!

At least Norm and I can discuss our individual views with each other in depth and still agree to disagree. We're a lot closer than you might think on the issues most important to us, though, even though we end up pulling the opposite levers as a result.

Jin Hee definitely agrees with you, though. I don't know which horrified her more... hearing that we voted opposite parties or learning that Norm's a Republican!

I have never met someone named Norm who wasn't a Republican... maybe it is the name.

No line at Medlock. Schools were closed, so there was even ample parking.

I voted yes on uniforms. Don't tell my niece Madison; she'd probably kick me in the shins. Hard.
